Arguably one of the most
beautiful places on earth, the Caribbean islands offer more than
just pristine white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. The
rich variety of activities, combined with the sun-kissed beaches
and spectacular scenery mean that there is something for all the
family.
For those looking for an active
holiday, there is plenty to do on all the Caribbean
islands.
It's not surprising that many tourist attractions focus on water
activities, as few places in the world offer such an array of
scenery and space with such a vast area of warm blue bays and
ocean to enjoy. Grand Cayman boasts the Stingray Sandbar, where
you can snorkel with velvety-smooth stingrays, or visit the
island of Cozumel's Palancar Reef and fulfil a life-long dream
by swimming with
dolphins. Many of the islands offer scuba
diving for all levels of diver, from complete beginner to
expert, and there are many stunning reefs and wrecks to explore,
plus there is a wealth of underwater scenery to discover for
those who prefer to snorkel.
Visitors looking for a more faster-paced adventure can hire jet
skis (usually on an hourly or half-hourly rate), go water-skiing,
or cling on to a banana boat as you skim over the waves! Don't
want to get wet? There are also boat excursions to other
Caribbean islands available to enjoy, plus deep-sea fishing
trips, aqua
bikes, boat
hire, parasailing,
kayaking and sunset
dinner cruises.
But it's not all about the water!
There's an equally impressive amount of things to do, see and
explore on land too. Barbados is home to the spectacular
Harrison's Caves, while the bird sanctuary at Antigua's Great
Bird Island is definitely worth a visit. And, the Butterfly Farm
in Aruba is a must-see experience. If you're into exploring, the
twin peaks of the Pitons in Saint Lucia soar 2,600 feet into the
sky and provide stunning views. Miles of trails allow you to
walk amongst the lush countryside and discover exotic wildlife
and rare plants and flowers. More plant life can be found at
Orchid World in Barbados and St.
Vincent's Botanical Gardens.
And
of course, for those who want one thing on holiday: to relax on
the beach and do absolutely nothing, the Caribbean is perfect
for lying back and relaxing with its white sandy beaches, calm
blue waters, tropical palm trees and a high probability of hot
sunshine all day in the dry
season, and is great for getting a
sun tan that will be the envy of everyone back home. Also, don't
think this is rare and hard to find. Antigua alone has one beach
for every day of the year! So you'll never be too far from the
sand.
Of course, dining on your cruise
will probably be what you are used to at home, but don't be
afraid to try the local restaurants. A large number of chefs
have trained in Europe, and now work with produce that comes
fresh from the island, and so has not spent days travelling,
giving it a much better taste. Fish is the main dish of the
Caribbean, and it's common for restaurants to serve fish that
has been caught that very day.
The Caribbean is excellent for
being able to combine all of the above activities, and so is the
perfect holiday for those looking to satisfy every member of the
party. Holidaymakers can relax in the
sun, take part in all the
available thrilling or more sedate activities, or combine the
two, and so create the perfect holiday in the
sun.
